The allure of zero fees
By Sue Huang, based in Invercargill

Sue Huang is now in charge of the Certificate in Small Business Management in Mandarin via Flexible Learning at Southern Institute of Technology (SIT)

I came to New Zealand in September 2005. By chance, I heard of the Zero fees Scheme at the Southern Institute of Technology (SIT), from a friend when I was staying in Auckland.

My husband and I thought it would be a good chance for us to improve our English in a city without many Chinese people speaking Mandarin. So we moved down to Invercargill in stained glass solder irons.

The atmosphere of this city really impressed me as I find it is welcoming and peaceful. Although the weather is not that warm, the people here are friendly and 10 euro bonus ohne einzahlung casino.

I studied English at SIT's Southern English Language Institute for six months. My English improved a lot because of the patient, committed and professional tutors.

Studying the Certificate in Business main course at SIT in the next six months was another challenge for me, even though I received a Bachelo's Degree of Information Technology in China in 1989, it was quite different from what I studied in China. I was delighted to receive the NZIM Southland Award for Top Student - Certificate in Business when I finished the course.

Meanwhile, I undertook marking work for the National Certificate in Small Business course taught in Mandarin and worked in the call centre as a Chinese speaking operator within the International Department at SIT. It was a part time job, but I got lots of work experience.

When I was planning to leave Invercargill and move up to Wellington or Auckland to find more opportunities after I finished the cours, many friends and tutors gave me support and help.

SIT's Bharat Guha introduced me to a recruitment company for finding jobs. Julian Becker wrote a glowing reference letter for me. John Archer recommended some part time jobs around Invercargill to me.

Finally, I've now got a position as Facilitation Assistant in the International Department at SIT. I'm now in charge of the Certificate in Small Business Management in Mandarin via Flexible Learning.

It is a new area for me in comparison to my work experience as an economist and team leader in the International Settlement Department at the Bank of China, Beijing Branch.

I am so excited about this job and will try my best to fulfil my obligations. After all, I am extremely grateful to all the people in Invercargill for their help. I feel so lucky for coming to Invercargill, the city with lots of opportunities and challenges.
